Do I require a Visa?
All visitors to Australia must have a valid visa to travel to and enter Australia (other than New Zealand passport holders who will normally be granted a Special Category visa on arrival, provided they meet health and character requirements; and permanent residents of Norfolk Island who may be granted a Permanent Resident of Norfolk Island visa on arrival). There are many visa options available to people wishing to visit Australia. The appropriate visa option will depend, amongst other things, on the person's purpose for visiting Australia.
Visas for specific purposes
For the purposes of attending ANZSNM 2014, you may wish to consider applying for one of the following visas, based on your role at the event.
- Business Visitor visas [eVisitor, ETA or Visitor (Subclass 600) visa in the business stream] – should be used by anyone who is participating in a conference, unless they are being paid by an organiser in Australia for their participation.
- Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) (Subclass 400) visa – should be used by those who are being paid by an organisation in Australia for their participation in a conference

Health and character requirements
All visa applicants will be required to meet certain character and health requirements as part of their visa application process. These requirements exist to uphold the safety and security of the Australian community. How far in advance should I apply?
Participants should apply for their visa well in advance of their intended date of travel to Australia. Apply at least 6-8 weeks prior for paper based applications, and at least 2 weeks for electronic visas.
